Utilities Electrician Instrumentation Technician

The Utilities department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Electrician Instrumentation Technician. Reporting to the Wastewater Supervisor, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly, starting as soon as possible.
This position involves skilled work at the electrical and instrumentation journeyperson level involving installation and maintenance tasks of the assets, primarily for water and sewer pumping systems, and the municipal wastewater treatment plant. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in the technical trade aspects of the work, verbal and written assignments which may be accompanied by sketches, blueprints, work orders, or diagrams are received from a superior. Project management of electrical and instrument assignments may be received from a superior.
Qualified candidates will possess a completed Red Seal or BCTQ Journeyperson Electrical Certification and Red Seal or BCTQ Journeyperson Instrumentation and Control Certification with 5 years of journeyperson experience working with electrical and electronic control equipment and systems. Candidates in the process of obtaining an Instrumentation and Control Certification may be considered. Qualified candidates demonstrate thorough knowledge of the standard methods, practices, material, tools and equipment used in the installation of maintenance of specialized electrical, instrument and electronic control systems; considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in such work; and considerable knowledge of the applicable rules and regulations governing the electrical work performed. Qualified candidates also demonstrate significant computer literacy and proficiency with SCADA, Microsoft 365, and other web-based applications with the ability to learn new and changing technology. Completion of a broad range of technical courses related to the water and sewer industry, SCADA, and control equipment and, the Electrical Field Safety Representative (FSR) certificate of qualifications is desirable.
The successful candidate demonstrates the ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled electrical tasks with minimum supervision; direct one or more skilled or semi-skilled workers as required; make decisions under pressure and in response to emergency situations; maintain records, estimate materials required and requisition parts and materials; and strong communication skills with a commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace to create effective working relationships.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract and a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
This position works 76.5 hours bi-weekly at a rate of $50.11 per hour. Employees in the Utilities department shall normally work a schedule consisting of eight days of work in a fourteen-day period. Each day of work shall be 10 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.
