Summary of Duties:
 
Reporting to the Manager of Lil’wat Employment and Training, & Program Coordinator WorkBC. The Employment Advisor assists unemployed, or underemployed individuals to obtain employment by performing duties such as supporting clients to identify realistic employment options, become job-ready, source prospective employers and provide coaching, and sustain employment once secured.
 
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
 
  • Interviews clients and identifies interests, skills, suitability, and job readiness. 
  • Refers to other programs and services as required and provides information regarding available community resources. 
  • Develops realistic employment action plans with clients. 
  • Liaises with the program funder and other stakeholders regarding relevant client information. 
  • Assist clients to become job-ready by performing duties such as arranging for education, or self-employment. 
  • Prepare education funding applications for approval. 
  • Assists in applying to funding sources, researching funding alternatives, and organizing funding initiatives. 
  • In accordance with career goals, provide coaching in employment-related areas such as work skills, job search skills, resume, preparation, and interview skills. 
  • Acquire job orders from employers. 
  • Facilitates job placement by performing duties such as explaining wage subsidy information and placement terms to clients and employers. 
  • Prepare wage subsidy applications. 
  • Completes and maintains accurate related records, documentation, and reports on client and job candidate progress. 
  • Attends weekly meetings with the Lil’wat Employment and Training team. 
  • Perform other related duties as requested. 
 
Experience and Attributes: 
 
  • Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • CDP Certification or the ability to gain certification.
  • Knowledge of the local labour market trends and training/employment opportunities in BC. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining quality, Client-centered service. 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language. 
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams. 
  • Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and time management skills. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines prioritizes assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Motivated self-starter and with strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation, and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members. 
  • Valid class 5 BC driver’s license and use of motor vehicle, clean driver’s abstract. 
  • Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including the Vulnerable Sector.
