Skate Host - Meadow Park Sports Centre
The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for interested individuals to apply for the casual position of Skate Host at Meadow Park Sports Centre (MPSC). Reporting to the Guest Services Coordinator, this position offers a variable schedule during MPSC’s operational hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., including weekends. Standard shifts are 11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., 11:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. but can vary due to operational needs and over holidays. Ideal candidates would commit to at least 2 shifts per week with an option to work more when needed.
The Skate Host role is a combination of skate shop and skate patrol duties during busy public skating sessions at MPSC. The Skate Host is responsible for providing exceptional guest service while controlling the use of the ice area, providing basic first aid as needed, enforcing rules and regulations to ensure public safety, and providing skate rentals and helmets to guests. Skate Hosts are also responsible for the general upkeep and organization of the skate shop and arena lobby.
Qualified candidates will need to demonstrate strong ice-skating ability. Preference will be given to applicants with previous guest service experience. Experience working in an arena or a recreation setting and sharpening skates are considered strong assets.
The successful candidate is customer service focused with a professional, approachable, and helpful demeanor; demonstrates excellent communication skills; possesses the ability to multitask in a fast-paced working environment; demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team; and works to create and maintain effective working relationships with others, while contributing to a positive team environment. The starting wage for this position is $22.45 an hour.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold, at minimum, a current Emergency First Aid certification (Standard First Aid preferred).
