Avalanche Construction & Woodworks (ACW) | Whistler, BC
$45–$52/hour | Full-time, year-round
Avalanche Construction & Woodworks is looking for an experienced carpenter ready to take the next step in their career and grow into a Site Supervisor role.
ACW is a small, family-run construction company based in Whistler, specializing in high-quality residential renovations and construction. Most of our projects are in Whistler, with additional work throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor.
As our company continues to grow, we’re looking for someone who wants to grow with us, taking on increasing responsibility for on-site project supervision while continuing to work hands-on as a carpenter.
Previous supervisory experience is not required. We’re looking for an experienced, well-rounded carpenter who shows leadership potential, takes ownership of their work, and is ready to develop their site supervision and leadership skills.
The Position
This is a hands-on carpentry role with a pathway into on-site supervision. You’ll initially work alongside our team while becoming familiar with ACW’s projects, standards and processes, with the goal of taking increasing responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the job site.
Our Project Managers oversee overall project scheduling, procurement, budgeting and client communication. As the Carpenter / Site Supervisor, your focus will be on executing the work on site and ensuring the job runs smoothly day-to-day.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing high-quality residential carpentry, including forming, framing and finish carpentry
- Reading and building from architectural plans, specifications and project documentation
- Leading and organizing the ACW crew’s day-to-day work on site
- Understanding the project schedule and planning ahead for upcoming site activities
- Coordinating directly with subcontractors and trades on site to ensure work is completed in the correct sequence and according to plan
- Maintaining a strong understanding of the work being completed by other trades and how it impacts ACW’s scope of work
- Identifying conflicts, deficiencies and potential issues on site and proactively working through solutions
- Communicating site progress, issues and required decisions to the Project Manager
- Ensuring the team has the information, tools and materials required to complete the planned work
- Maintaining clean, organized, safe and professional job sites
- Communicating professionally with clients and homeowners while working in their homes
- Helping ensure ACW’s standards for workmanship, organization and attention to detail are maintained throughout the project
- Taking increasing ownership of on-site leadership and supervision as you develop in the role
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of carpentry experience
- Red Seal Carpenter certification or equivalent carpentry qualifications
- Strong experience in forming, framing and finish carpentry
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural plans
- A carpenter who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop into a supervisory role
- Takes initiative and thinks ahead
- Organized, proactive and able to plan upcoming work
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Strong on-site problem-solving skills
- Professional and confident communicating with clients, trades and coworkers
- Ability and desire to lead and support other team members
- Reliable and accountable
- Works well independently and as part of a small team
- Takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized job site
- Interested in contributing to the continued growth and development of ACW
Location, Vehicle & Tool Requirements
Applicants must:
- Currently reside in the Sea to Sky Corridor
- Hold a valid BC driver’s licence
- Have a reliable vehicle capable of transporting their tools and materials to and between job sites
- Have a complete set of standard carpentry hand tools
- Drill/driver
- Skill saw / circular saw
- Chop saw / mitre saw
- Table saw
- Air compressor and brad nailers, or equivalent battery-powered brad nailers
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting wage of $45–$52/hour, based on experience and qualifications
- Full-time, year-round employment
- 40 hours per week
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- 2 weeks’ vacation during the first year, increasing to 3 weeks after one year
