Summary of Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Workplace Wellness Advisor is responsible for the overall health and safety of the organization and its employees through development, implementation and management of processes, education and training as it relates to holistic wellness (physical, mental, emotional & spiritual).
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
- Assess organization and employee wellness needs with the goal of developing and evaluating wellness programs that uphold defined requirements in regulations, policies and standards
- Develop, lead and participate in the Occupational Health & Safety Committee to ensure compliance with regulations
- Lead & participate in workplace audits and investigations of safety concerns, incidents & accidents
- Act as a liaison between employees, leaders, medical providers and WorkSafe BC to ensure proper reporting and follow up on workplace incidences
- Lead & participate in workplace inspections to ensure equipment, materials & processes are upheld in a safe manner
- Provide recommendations to eliminate or reduce workplace risks & hazards
- Develop & implement wellness programs, policies and training to mitigate risk, optimize worker’s health & safety, and foster a positive workplace wellness culture
- Initiate enforcement procedures for violations of health & safety standards and regulations
- Provide training related to occupational wellness
- Implement a lateral kindness framework to address lateral violence in the workplace
- Organize & facilitate workplace wellness events to foster employee knowledge, engagement & participation
- Develop strong external and cross departmental relationships to collaborate on wellness related initiatives
- Incorporate Lil’wat cultural practices into wellness programs
- Create & manage a clear communication process for disseminating wellness information and updates
- Ensure alignment between workplace wellness programs and the organization’s strategic plan/goals
- Acts as the first point of contact for workplace wellness inquiries, assisting employees with accessing resources
- Provide reporting and recommendations relevant to workplace wellness metrics
- Maintain a filing system with relevant documentation required for training, reporting, auditing purposes
- Performs other duties as assigned
Experience and Attributes:
- Relevant education or training and experience related to safety and wellness
- WHMIS & Occupational First Aid, minimum level 1 or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience as a member of a Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee is an asset
- Previous experience working with First Nations is preferred, including a knowledge and understanding of Lil’wat Nation community, history, culture, language and customs
- Previous training and experience with cultural safety, lateral violence, and trauma informed practices.
- Strong knowledge & experience working with related federal and provincial government standards, statutes, regulations, laws, programs and Agencies
- Solid analytical skills to interpret legislation and convert into relevant safety programs
- Ability to facilitate meetings, presentations and events
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
- Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with internal & external stakeholders
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, a clean Driver’s Abstract, and a reliable vehicle
- Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector
