Thursday Feb 22, 2024 | Sharing Stories with the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre
The team at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) welcomes you to connect, listen and learn about the museum and all it has to offer with local Cultural Ambassadors. Enjoy expanding your network and connecting with Whistler’s business community over a complimentary drink and some delicious food prepared by the onsite Thunderbird Cafe, in this beautiful setting.
PLUS each attendee will have the opportunity to experience the new exhibition, Fighting For Justice free of charge as well as two complimentary tickets to come back and enjoy it at a later date!
More about the Exhibition:
Fighting for Justice personalizes more than 150 years of history from the perspective of First Nations communities, Asian Canadians and their allies, who fought for justice in the face of colonial dispossession and racist exclusions.
The exhibit tells the history through individual stories of Asian Canadians and First Nations on Vancouver Island, and highlights the ties between different groups on the Island. There are several examples of Asian Canadian and Indigenous communities working together, including an Alert Bay grocery store owned by an Asian Canadian family that continued to provide supplies for potlatches in the area after the government ban.
Stories from both the Squamish Nation and the Lil’wat Nation in their efforts to Fight For Justice in their own territories.
