In this 4 month program, participants will learn and experience the benefits of coaching an essential tool in driving performance in individuals and organizations as well as overcoming leadership issues.
The program is based on Dr. Mark Colgate`s book, 8 Moments of Power in Coaching. At each of the 8 sessions the concepts of each chapter will be discussed and practiced:
1: The moment you realize the power of coaching
2: The Moment you design a system for coaching
3: The Moment you create the right context to coach
4: The Moment you realize the power of giving and receiving high-quality feedback
5: The Moment you use high-quality feedback to create experts
6: The Moment you adopt a multi-dimensional athletic approach to coaching organizations
7: The moment you run an effective coaching session using fair process
8: The Moment you measure the success of your coaching
To practice coaching concepts participants will be asked to find a coach and a coachee at the beginning of the program.
This course will teach you 4 things:
- How to design and deliver a system for coaching for all employees
- How you can become a better coach
- How you can become a better coachee
- How to measure the success of coaching
The four month program includes:
- November 16 | 9am-12pm (public course: Be a Coach) | The Westin
- November 16: 1.30-2.30pm at the Whistler Chamber
- November 29: 12-1pm, online
- December 13: 12-1pm, online
- January 10: 12-1pm, online
- January 24: 12-1pm, online
- February 7: 12-1pm, online
- February 28: 12-1pm, online
- March 7: 12-2pm, online
- A reflection exercise of your experience and coaching ability at the start
- An evaluation of your organization`s coaching systems and its current execution
- Attendance at a minimum of 6 (out of 9) sessions.
- Contributions to online discussions.
- A final reflection exercise to assess the progress you have made as a coach and coachee.
Required time: Be a Coach course, plus 8 X 60 min sessions plus 3-4 hours per week for assignments and online discussions.

Mark's expertise is in service excellence and coaching. He has taught many courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive levels in Victoria/BC, China, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. Previously the GM of Customer Satisfaction with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Mark is known for his down-to-earth presentation style. In 2013, Mark Colgate received The Harry Hickman Award for Teaching Excellence. He has also consulted for many companies such as Toyota, TELUS, Whistler Blackcomb, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Sony, Schneider Electric, Kiwi Experience Tourism Bus Company and the BC Government.
